The United Nations Barbados and Eastern Caribbean in collaboration with Adopt a Coastline, will be undertaking a beach cleanup exercise as part of our UN Day week of activities in support of SDG acceleration in Antigua and Barbuda.
You are cordially invited to join us on Saturday October 28th at 6:00am to 9:00am to clean Deep Bay and Hide Away Bay and the surrounding environs. We will assemble at 6:15 at the deep bay car park for distribution of supplies (garbage bags and gloves). Water will be available at the meeting point. Participants will be divided into groups based on the turnout to tackle a few areas at the same time to maximize our efforts. Kindly note the area map at the end of this email.
T-Shirts will be distributed the day before the cleanup on Thursday October 26th at the UN Common Premises on Independence Drive in the Resident Coordinator Office 3:00 pm – 4.30pm and also the morning of the cleanup at 6:15 at the meeting point.
In our efforts to reduce plastic waste, we ask that all participants bring a water cannister/bottle that they can refill using the water provided at the meeting point, since we are trying to avoid distributing single use water bottles. In keeping with our environmentally friendly consciousness, we also ask that participants bring garden gloves if they have these since they are more durable for picking up certain pollutants like broken bottles. For those without gloves, disposable gloves will be available.
In your wardrobe preparation, please add a hat for the sun and keep in mind that we will be taking photo and video footage to use in our various media channels.
To close off all the hard work done in the morning, we would like the entire group of participants to come together to share a light snack at the meeting point. We will have a table available and ask that each participant bring a small item to contribute to our potluck themed snack break. We will meet back at the meeting point at 9:00 for this. Any item you think others may enjoy is welcome, including drinks, snacks, fruits, desserts, savory items, etc.
As a final note you may also want to wear sunscreen and bring bug spray. You can also bring a chair to sit down if they have one and swimsuits if you are interested in a post clean-up swim.
Looking forward to your participation on this important exercise. Remember, the aim is to complete Deep Bay and Hideaway Bay, National Park, Pond and Dirt Tracks which are all desperate for cleaning! We are very excited to have you join us and believe you will make a wonderful impact with a team turnout combined with Adopt a coastline volunteers. Adopt a Coastline have partnered with Coco Vibes to organize about 4 clean ups here so this will be a grande finale!
